Josamycin is a white or yellowish-white crystalline powder, odorless, bitter in taste, easily soluble in ethanol, ether, and slightly soluble in water. The molecular formula is C42H69NO15, and the molecular weight is 828. Clinically, it is mainly used for infections of the respiratory system, otolaryngology, dermatology and biliary tract caused by sensitive bacteria.
Application
The antibacterial effect is similar to erythromycin. It has antibacterial effect on gram-positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus, hemolytic streptococcus, pneumococcus, diphtheria bacillus, tetanus bacillus, anthrax, etc. It also has effect on some gram-negative bacteria such as Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Bordetella pertussis, Brucella, etc. It is effective on mycoplasma, chlamydia, rickettsia and spirochete, sensitive to Campylobacter and Legionella, and more effective on gram-positive anaerobic bacteria than erythromycin.
