Potassium iodide tablets are used for the prevention and treatment of endemic goitres, for the preparation of hyperthyroidism before surgery and for hyperthyroid crisis. Dosage: For oral administration:
1. Prevention of endemic goitre: the dose depends on the local iodine deficiency, generally 100 μg/day is sufficient.
2. Treatment of endemic goitre: 1 to 10 mg/day for 1 to 3 months in early stage patients, with a break of 30 to 40 days in between. After about 1 to 2 months, the dose can be gradually increased to 20-25mg/day for a total duration of about 3 to 6 months.
