Gliclazide, molecular formula C15H21N3O3S, is a sulfonylurea oral anti diabetes drug. It is white crystal or crystalline powder, odorless, tasteless, and used to treat type II diabetes, and β Cell sulfonylurea receptor (SUR1) binds and further blocks ATP sensitive potassium channels. Therefore, the outflow of potassium is significantly reduced, resulting in β Cell depolarization. then, β Voltage dependent calcium channels in cells open, leading to the activation of calmodulin, which leads to exocytosis containing in-sulin secretion granules. It can also effectively improve the antioxidant status and nitric- oxide mediated vasodilation in patients with type 2 diabetes, and protect the pancreas β Cells are protected from hydr ogen peroxide damage.

Gliclazide is a 2nd generation oral sulfonylurea hypoglycemic agent with strong action.    Its mechanism is similar to that of toluenosulfonylurea, i.e., it selectively acts on pancreatic β-cells to promote insulin secretion and enhance insulin release after eating glucose, which can not only improve the metabolism of diabetic patients, but also improve or delay the occurrence of diabetic vascular complications.
